Ten killed after Burkina Faso bus hits landmine on Christmas Day

The bus was traveling from Fada N'Gourma, a market town, approximately 220 km (136 mi) from Ouagadougou capital, to Kantchari border town near Niger. Although no one has claimed responsibility for the attack, it occurred in an area in which the government was fighting insurgents connected to al Qaeda in North Africa and Islamic State fighters. They have conducted raids and blockedades in several towns in the northern and eastern parts of the country since 2015, killing over 2,000 people and dislocating nearly 2 million.
