Russia’s Foreign Ministry accused Western ambassadors of meddling in Russia’s domestic affairs. It also warned that German journalists could be expelled from the country if Berlin banned Russian reporters. The tension between Russia and Germany increased after the leak of an audio recording where German military officials discussed weaponry for Ukraine and possible targets in Russia, including the Crimean bridge. Moscow claims this proves Western countries have plans to strike Russia and summoned Germany’s ambassador for an explanation. Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, criticized Western ambassadors for interfering in Russian affairs and questioned their presence in the country. Additionally, Zakharova stated that if Berlin takes action against Russian journalists, Germany’s journalists might be expelled from Russia.
