Boar's Head recall expanded to include 7 million more pounds of meat products
A recall of Boar’s Head meat due to a listeria outbreak has been expanded to include 7 million pounds of additional products. Boar’s Head has recalled ready-to-eat liverwurst products and other deli meats after an outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes illnesses linked to sliced meat from grocery store deli counters. The recall includes Strassburger brand liverwurst, as notified by the US Department of Agriculture. Boar’s Head has decided to pause ready-to-eat operations at its facility in Jarratt, Virginia. The recall now covers meat from retail deli counters and packaged products shipped nationwide and to several countries. The outbreak has led to 34 illnesses, including hospitalizations and deaths. Listeria can spread easily at delis, and pregnant women, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems are advised to avoid eating deli meat unless heated sufficiently. If symptoms of listeriosis occur, medical attention should be sought. Consumers who have purchased the recalled products should discard them and thoroughly clean surfaces that may have come into contact with the meat.
