From skin to hair, scabs, and even tears, the external appearance of the body can offer clues about the state of your health. But there’s another part of the anatomy that’s often overlooked: the feet. Feet can indicate viral infections, diseases of the cardiovascular system, and even neurological disorders. For example, hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFM) is a common childhood illness with a rash that can appear on the feet. Discoloration and pain in the feet can be a sign of a condition called blue toe syndrome, which is often caused by cholesterol emboli. Discoloration and pain in the feet can also indicate cardiovascular disease or a nervous system disorder. Regular foot checks and seeking medical advice for any abnormalities are important for overall health.
