Georgia Amoore grew up just 70 miles apart in Australia. They'll be playing on the same court Friday night in Dallas to earn a place in the championship.
Amoore, Virginia Tech's junior guard, told reporters on Thursday that she was from the city and I am from the countryside. I'm proud of her for sticking through and seeing the results.
Amoore is a Ballarat native who has led the Hokies into their first Final Four in program history. Poa is a Melbourne-born sophomore guard who plays for Coach Kim Mulkey in Louisiana State's second year. The Tigers are making their sixth semis appearance.
It's not the first matchup between the two Aussies. Amoore revealed that the two Australians played each other on club teams during high school and traveled together to India as members of the Australian National Team.
Amoore, Poa and other Australian basketball players are the latest to make their way to the United States. Charlise Dunning, also a freshman from Victoria State, will play for Virginia Tech Friday night.
Ezi Magbegor is a Seattle Storm center and he said that 'the whole of Australia supports them'. It's exciting to know that they have our full support.
Eric Hayes is a junior basketball trainer in Australia who coached Amoore at Ballarat. He has been following Poa ever since she was 12 years old. He called Poa an athlete that 'could simply play', and Amoore 'explosive' and'skilled'.
He said, 'It is pretty amazing to see two Australian girls who I first saw as small children competing in the Final Four.

Dawn Staley has said she is not interested in coaching men's teams.

Since she won her first national championship at South Carolina in 2017, Dawn Staley has been mentioned by many N.B.A. Since she won her national championship in 2017 at South Carolina, Dawn Staley's name has been floating around the N.B.A. These conversations appeared to heat up briefly after South Carolina appointed Staley as the highest-paid women's college basketball coach in 2021. The contract was for seven years and $22.4 million.
Staley was mentioned in recent men's basketball circles after Temple University parted with Aaron McKie at the end this season. Staley was hailed as the ideal candidate to revive Temple's basketball team, which had been nationally competitive in the 1980s/90s under John Chaney.
Staley is a native Philadelphian who coached Temple women between 2000 and 2008, leading the team to four conference titles and six tournament appearances. Staley left Temple in 2008 for South Carolina, but made it clear at a press conference on Thursday that she has no plans to return home.
Staley stated, "I don't wish to coach the men's team." It's also cold up there.
Staley said that she would not be able to compete with Connecticut's Coach Geno Auriemma and their 11 championships.
Staley stated that 'what I consider important as a Black women and coach is how you do it'. The example you set.

This Final Four is awash with transfer athletes.
Angel Reese's move from Maryland to Louisiana State was the most notable before this season. Reese is the Tigers' leader in double-doubles, and she has done so nearly every game. But Reese is not the only transfer who has made an impact on the team.
Alexis Morris played at three other schools before joining Kim Mulkey last season. LaDazhia William, the starting forward, played for South Carolina as well as Missouri. Jasmine Carson represented Georgia Tech, West Virginia and Ohio State. Kateri poole represented Ohio State. Last-Tear, a sophomore, transferred to L.S.U. Northwest Florida State Junior College.
Virginia Tech also has a similar roster of transfers: Taylor Soule who transferred from Boston College and KayanaTraylor who is in her second season as a Hokie, after transferring Purdue. D'asia Gregory, who played 23 minutes in her third year after transferring Georgia Tech, Clara Ford who gets limited minutes on the bench, and Ashley Owusu who was a highly-publicized transfer from Maryland and hasn't been in the Hokies rotation for the last month.
When Destanni Henderson decided to leave South Carolina after her senior season for the W.N.B.A., Georgia Tech transfer Kierra Fetcher took over as the point guard. She shared time with Raven Johnson. After transferring from Syracuse, 6-foot-7 Kamilla Cardso was a major contributor on the inside for the Gamecocks in both of her seasons.
Molly Davis from Central Michigan has played quality minutes for Iowa, despite the fact that there is only one transfer.
Changes to N.C.A.A. rules in recent years have led to the changes. In recent years, rules have been changed to allow athletes to transfer schools without sitting out the season.
L.S.U. has, of course benefited most from its transfers. They have accounted for 77.5 percent (or a total of 93 points) of the team's score this season.
