The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency temporarily altered a rule at the start of the pandemic to allow doctors prescribe controlled substances such as stimulants and opiates via telemedicine, without an in person visit.

Some telemedicine startups have taken advantage of this rule by marketing their services heavily on social media. They are able to prescribe difficult-to-find ADHD medications like Adderall in just 30 minutes via video call.
